Legon Creative Athletics Club (LCAC) has begun preparations towards the third edition of the exhilarating and once in a lifetime athletics event in Ghana, the Ghana Junior Olympics Championship (GJOC).
The upcoming championship promises to be even more exciting, with revised age categories to ensure fair and competitive participation for all athletes.
In an interview, the Technical Director of LCAC, Elorm Amenakpor stated that “the primary goal of the GJOC is to create opportunities for the young ones to fall in love with athletics and sports in general, to stay sound and healthy, and to open career pathways for those who will pursue it further and become professionals and for that matter future champions.”
“This is actually in alignment with the very core of the new educational curriculum that is to be rolled out in Ghana in the next academic year. We at LCAC are determined to contribute our quota to the discovery and building of these young champions” he added.
LCAC’s focus in organizing the GJOC is to create tomorrow’s champions today because that is what every country successful in athletics and sports in general have done and are still doing.
“In Ghana, we seem to be catching that train of success later and as a matter of urgency, we need to catch up and establish a pathway for building a strong and competitive pool of new athletes to trickle in because the current ones we are celebrating today will not be here always. Jamaica has the Boys & Girls Championships which have produced all their top athletes. The USA has the Junior Olympics, which is why they never lack athletes” Coach Elorm further added.
The inaugural GJOC in 2021 featured 250 athletes. The second edition in 2023 saw a significant increase in participation, with 1,500 athletes competing. Judging by these numbers Legon Creative Athletics Club, organizers of the Ghana Junior Olympics Championship believe that participation will only grow in numbers and most importantly in the discovery of new talents and the opportunity to continue with the nurturing process.
The 3rd Edition of the Ghana Junior Olympics Championship is scheduled to take place in December, 2024. The exact date and venue will be announced soon.
Stay tuned for more updates and be ready to witness yet another amazing event and the discovery and rise of Ghana’s future athletics stars.
